What is the Engineering Peer Advising Program?
Engineering Peer Advising is a new program that helps first year students talk to upper year engineering students. The program facilitates 1-1 coaching sessions that are available for in person or virtual appointments. In addition to 1-1 sessions, the peer advisors aim to organize events throughout the academic year to help students with their challenges and to aid them in navigating engineering at UBC.
Who are the engineering peer advisors?
Aahana Kanyal
Biomedical Engineering
(Cellular Bioengineering)
Hi!
My name is Aahana Kanyal and my preferred pronouns are she/her/hers. I am currently in my 5th year at UBC studying biomedical engineering and specializing in cellular bioengineering. I originally am from India and moved to London, England about 6 years ago.
My passion for engineering comes from the desire to create useful technology and design for consumers by making sure their needs are met to the fullest. Growing up in different healthcare systems and observing the discrepancies in them has driven me to create solutions that make healthcare efficient, affordable, and available to all communities, which is what I strive towards. I have worked with various design teams, research labs and the Provincial Health Services in the past 5 years here at UBC. My previous experiences have exposed me to situations that have helped me develop effective time management strategies, take care of my physical as well as mental health, and have helped me thrive as an engineering student at UBC. I love having interesting conversations with people, biking and brewing beer at home. I am really looking forward to chatting with some/all of you in this upcoming year.

In addition, I am also teaching APSC 100/101 Introduction to Engineering courses as a Teaching Assistant. Previously, I was involved in research for 8 months in Molecular Mechatronics Laboratory at UBC. I also had experience with off-campus work. In my second year, I was also in a design team working in low voltage system and chassis teams at UBC Solar. In my free time, I love to play spike ball or watch Netflix and of course hanging out and party with my friends!!! I am really excited to meet with all of you (if not yet)!!!
