A registration token is for students who meet the pre-requisite or co-requisite a course, but are unable to register because Workday does not recognize their transfer credit or equivalent course code. If you are looking for registration support when you are missing the pre-requisite or co-requisite for a course, please refer to Pre-Requisite or Co-Requisite Exception.
Registration tokens are issued for the course you are registering for, not the pre-requisite or co-requisite course that the system doesn’t recognize. Students can only obtain a registration token by requesting it from the program student services who are responsible for the course code.
Important Notes about Registration Tokens:
- A registration token is valid for one term only and does not carry forward to future academic period. For example, a token issued for a 2025 Winter Term 2 course will not be valid for 2026 Summer or Winter terms.
- If a course has only one section, we may register you directly instead of being issued a token.
- If you are a newly transferred student, or a first-year student planning for 26W registration, we recommend to ask for a registration token once you receive your program placement, and before your registration opens.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible to self-register for a course, students must meet all pre-requisite or co-requisite course codes exactly as shown in the course description. A registration token may be issued to a student if:
- They meet the pre-requisite or co-requisite requirement for a UBC course, but Workday Student does not recognize the transfer credit they received to allow for student self-registration.
- For example, if a course requires one of: APSC 176, ENGL 110, ENGL 111, ENGL 112, ENGL 120, ENGL 121, WRDS 150 as a pre-requisite, Workday Student will not recognize ENGL_V 1ST transfer credit.
- Their transfer credit is used to satisfy a program requirement – shown in their transfer credit summary.
- If they are currently waitlisted for the pre-requisite or co-requisite course.
Note: Workday registration and the Academic Progress Report (APR) function separately; meeting a requirement in the APR does not guarantee self-registration.
If one of these situations applies and you cannot register for a course listed below, submit a registration form to EAS to request a token.
