Academic Advising

As an engineering student, you have a dedicated team of professionals to support you along your journey. Our departments, programs, and the Engineering Academic Services (EAS) team are able to assist you with academic advising, course selection, registration, transfer credits, and much more.

Prior to Booking an Appointment

Before you book your appointment, we recommend you:

  • Visit the EAS Frequently Asked Questions – common inquiries and their answers are listed here, as well as links to relevant sections of our website
  • Review the UBC Academic Calendar – The Academic Calendar is a comprehensive guide to all programs, courses, services, and academic policies at UBC
  • Consider the length of your inquiry – complex questions about course planning, academic standing, or academic concession may require the 20-minute booked appointments. However, if you have a quick inquiry, it may be faster to send EAS an email or attend our Virtual Drop-In.

First Year and General BASC Academic Advising

EAS handles all first year program, complementary studies, and general academic advising inquiries. Topics can include first year course planning, second year placement, minors, interdepartmental transfer, academic concession, academic standing, and more.

Students can book an advising appointment (virtual or in-person) with EAS online through the PD Portal.

Log in to PD Portal > Academic Services – Vancouver (Blue Bar) > Appointments with EAS > Book an Appointment by Type/Provider

When booking appointments through PD Portal, please ensure you are providing details about what you would like to discuss in the Additional Information section of the booking page. This will ensure the advisor has adequate time to prepare for your appointment.

Students will receive further instructions by email after booking an appointment through the PD Portal.

Upper Year Academic Advising

Upper year students (years 2 to 5) with inquiries about technical electives, upper year course planning, and/or program-specific requirements should contact their Program Advisor.

Indigenous Student Advising

Engineering Academic Services has a designated Academic Advisor for Indigenous students in the Engineering program.  The advisor is available to provide information about resources on campus, help with questions related to academic planning, or provide health and well-being connections.

To set up an appointment, please log in to our online booking system PD Portal to view Catherine’s schedule and select the most convenient time for you. If no appointments are available, please email Catherine directly with three suggested times you are available.

How to use PD Portal to book an appointment?

Log in to PD Portal > Academic Services – Vancouver (Blue Bar) > Appointments with EAS > Book an Appointment by Provider > Catherine McInnis. Students will receive further instructions by email after booking an appointment through the PD Portal.
