Advising Services Transition

The Faculty of Applied Science is transitioning the majority of undergraduate academic advising in the BASc program to Engineering Academic Services (EAS) between 2026-27. This change is part of a two-year, phased transition designed to provide BASc students with a consistent, coordinated, holistic and accessible advising experience.

Currently, Engineering students are served by both EAS and their departmental program advising office once they are placed in a program. Over the next two years we will transition all advising services to EAS, and the EAS office will be the single point of contact for all students advising needs.

When is this happening?

We will be taking a phased approach to making this change over the next 18 months. The first group of students will transition to EAS for all of the academic advising needs on April 7, 2026 and will include Civil, Manufacturing, Integrated, and Materials students. All other students will transition to EAS for the advising services in the coming months and will be informed of the transition timeline in advance.

Now until April 7

All students access their regular program advising contacts for any advising or registration queries.

Future Phases

Between 2026-27, the following programs will also transition to EAS for advising:

  • Chemical
  • Chemical & Biological
  • Computer
  • Electrical
  • Environmental
  • Mechanical
  • Mining

Biomedical, Geological and Engineering Physics will not transition to EAS for advising, but will continue to contact EAS for usual processes like graduation and academic concession.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which programs are transitioning their advising services to EAS on April 7?

Civil, Integrated, Manufacturing and Materials engineering students will access EAS for all their academic advising needs starting on April 7th. All other programs will continue to access their program advising office until further notice.

I am a first year student, where do I go for advising?

You will continue to access all advising services through EAS. Where you access program advising will depend on which program you are placed in. We will share this information with you at the time of program placement.

Will this affect my ability to graduate?

No, the graduation process will not be affected in any way.

I am a Materials, Integrated, Manufacturing or Civil student. For what reasons would I access EAS once all advising services have transitioned to EAS? Should I still contact my program advising office for anything?

Any questions you have about course planning, academic concession, registration, or any other academic service support you need can be directed to EAS. EAS should be your first point of contact for all academic-related questions.

My program is not transitioning advising to EAS in April, but I am unclear as to when to access EAS or my program office.

If your program is not transitioning in April 2026, can use this table to determine who to speak with. You will need to contact EAS when you need support with registration in courses that are coded APSC_V CIVL_V, IGEN_V, MTRL_V or MANU_V.

My advising service is moving to EAS, but I have an ongoing issue that I am working with my program advisor on currently – where do I go and will my advising notes be transferred?

After the date that your program transitions to EAS, you can speak to EAS about the issue.  We are working with program offices and advisors to ensure that previous and ongoing advising notes are accessible to EAS so that we can help with any questions you may have.

Who do I speak to about technical electives?

If your advising service has transitioned to EAS, you should go to EAS, and if not you should contact your program advising office for advice on technical electives.

When will my program transition to EAS for academic services?

An exact date has only been planned for Civil, Integrated, Manufacturing and Materials Engineering students. All other programs that are transitioning will be informed in the coming months as to when their advising services will change. We aim to have all programs other than ENPH, GEOE, and BMEG transitioned to EAS by the end of 2027.

Why is my program not included in the change to advising in EAS (ENPH, GEOE, BMEG)?

These three BASc programs are APSC degrees, they are administered outside of APSC, by Science (ENPH and GEOE) and the School of Biomedical Engineering (BMEG). If you are a student in Engineering Physics, Biomedical or Geological Engineering, there will be no change to your advising services. You will continue to receive program specific advising from your current office and you will contact EAS for things like academic concession, as you always have.
